Hands-on learning. Real outcomes.
Revive Cycles has been awarded a Portland Clean Energy Fund Mini Grant to launch a youth e-bike building program. Students work side-by-side with instructors to build their own e-bike through a multi-day, hands-on course.
By the end, each participant gains both a sustainable way to get around and practical skills in mechanics and electrical safety.
Climate action, equity, and green jobs
Climate Action — Every e-bike reduces car trips and emissions.
Equity — The program prioritizes schools and youth along Portland’s 82nd Avenue corridor.
Workforce Development — Students gain mechanical, electrical, and safety skills tied to green careers.
Safety first, then build and ride
- Battery & motor safety — charging protocols, safe handling, PPE, inspection checklist.
- Mid-drive motor install & wiring — bottom bracket mount, drivetrain alignment, harness connections, torque checks.
- Frame & drivetrain — brakes, shifting, chainline, and safety checks.
- Test & certify — test ride, torque re-check, electrical inspection, completion recognition.
- Ride & maintain — take-home e-bike, tool kit, and follow-up support.
Standards that protect students and staff
- UL-listed chargers and supervised charging stations; fire blanket on site.
- Written SOPs for charging, storage, and transport.
- Pre- and post-ride inspection logs for accountability.
Host a small-group youth e-bike build
Revive Cycles is inviting schools along Portland’s 82nd Avenue corridor to host the Youth E-Bike Building Program. With current funding, we can serve about 4–5 students at a time, providing each participant with their own completed e-bike. We’re open to expanding group size through matching funds or sponsorships.
